Who weighs the most in this pic?

Muscle is more dense than fat, which is why it takes up less space than fat. Various women may be a similar weight, but the person with a higher body fat percentage will wear a larger clothing size. Guess who weighs the most in their little white outfit? Guess their actual weight and I'll send you a FREE DVD! Email your answers to: info@leisahart.com

Which weighs more -- 5 lb. muscle or 5 lb. fat? Sorry for chuckling :-)) How about this? Which weighs more -- 5 lb. feathers or 5 lb. cotton? See where I'm going with this? A pound is equal to a pound no matter what the objects. The key is that pound for pound, muscle does take up less space than fat.

Burn Baby Burn

Muscle tissue will burn 7-10 calories daily per pound. Fat burns only 2-3 calories daily per pound. Replacing a pound of fat with a muscle, therefore, helps you burn an additional 4-6 more calories each day, according to Cedric X. Bryant, chief science officer for the American Council on Exercise. If you utilize a resistance training regimen, you can expect to gain 3-5 lbs. of muscle mass in 3-4 months.

Use Those Muscles

The best way to benefit from the calorie-burning potential of your muscles is to actually use them. The number of calories your body uses when you are at rest, typically accounts for 60 to 75 percent of the calories you burn in a day. Increasing your lean muscle on your frame will boost your metabolism and help you burn more calories even while you sleep!

Think About It

High body fat percentages are associated with raised risk for obesity-related diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, breathing problems, gallstones and certain cancers. For optimal health, the best body fat range for women is 18 to 30 percent. For men, it’s 10 to 25 percent.

Take ACTION

Find a resistance and cardio routine that you enjoy and get your body moving! Remember that resistance training simply means any exercise that causes your muscles to contract. You can use free weights, resistance bands, bottles of water, and even just your own body weight like when doing a standing squat or lunge. As long as the weight causes muscular contractions, it counts as resistance exercise.

CHECK THIS OUT

Recently I was asked to give this new exercise machine a try called Body Rider 35. I have tons of fitness concepts presented to me every year and you bet your buns I'm very selective. At first glance it looks like a stationary bike, but once I hopped on I quickly realized it was QUITE different. The pedals & handlebars are simultaneously synchronized - they move in unison -- so both knees come up together like a crunch with every pedal rotation.

With the first move I could feel my abs really engaging and after just a few minutes I was working up a sweat and felt every major muscle in my body being activated. VERY COOL. The more muscles you engage = burning more calories in less time! VERY VERY COOL. Not having to get on the floor to work your abs. BEYOND COOL. Then I found out the test group lost weight in just 12 minutes a day 3-5 times a week. I'M IN!!!
